Pop Star gives students between the ages of 7 - 15 the opportunity to work closely with area professionals on the fundamentals of pop music performance. For five days, students and staff work together rehearsing, writing and arranging a short set of material for each group to perform a special showcase on the last day of the camp session.
John Mason, camp director, recently graduated with a degree in pipe organ performance from Florida State University. While in Tallahassee, John also pursued his interest in musical theater by accompanying FSU musical theater students as well as the rehearsal accompanist for Tallahassee Community College's production of A Chorus Line. He also dislpayed his talents as rehearsal accompanist for Tallahassee Theater A La Carte's productions of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Other performences include: Pippin, Les Misérables, and Once on this Island.
He now works as the Organ Scholar and Assisting Music Director at the Cathedral of St. Peter in St. Petersburg, Florida. He conducts the children's choirs at the cathedral and teaches children aged five all the way through middle school students. John's love for musical theater, popular music , and children has brought this exciting camp to life!
